GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) -Learning the business of medical marijuana and possibly owning a dispensary was why some area residents turned out to a unique seminar in Gulfport Tuesday.
Prospective small business owners are learning how to set up shop, make a profit, and get their product delivered. It’s one of three conferences being held all over the state.
“All three of our events across the state are sold out, so we had to expand our capacity for these events,” said Ken Newburger with the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association. “It’s pretty impressive to see all of these come together for medical marijuana. We’re trying to bring in companies who can talk about it because they’ve done it so many times before and educate the people of Mississippi how to do this safely, effectively, and responsibly.”
The seminars are being held in Gulfport, Southaven and Jackson.
“The cannabis space is a unique industry. It’s highly nuanced, it’s different from market-to-market, and there are different requirements for running a successful cannabis retail operation, and the medical space and adult-use space, so with COVA being an education and compliance first company, when we go into a new market, we like to go into that market and educate,” said Chris Reid with COVA.
Tuesday’s seminar was split into different sessions due to the high volume of interested parties.
