ECRU • Officials in Ecru have voted against allowing the growth or sale of medical marijuana within the small town’s limits
In a split vote on Tuesday, members of the Ecru Board of Aldermen voted to “opt out” of providing guidelines for the cultivation or sale of the newly legalized drug. Gable Todd was the lone alderman to vote in favor of allowing medical marijuana to be grown and sold within the town.
According to state law, municipal leaders have until May 3 to “opt out” of Mississippi’s medical marijuana program, although doing so doesn’t disallow the possession of medical marijuana by those with prescriptions.
Citizens in any municipalities that do vote against allowing the growth and/or sale of medicinal weed within their limits can petition to bring the issue to a vote.
