HERNANDO, Miss. — Patients of North Mississippi’s first medical marijuana dispensary will have to wait a little while longer to get their medicine.
Herbal Alchemy Dispensary in Hernando was supposed to open Monday, January 9, 2023.

But, the dispensary posted to Facebook on January 6 telling patients that their opening had been delayed.
“Due to unfortunate delays with the testing and transport that are out of our control, we must postpone our opening from Monday, January 9 to a later date TBD,” the Facebook post read in part.
The delay comes just weeks after the dispensary held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 23, 2022.
The postponement just adds to what has been an already lengthy wait for medical marijuana in Mississippi.
Voters approved medical marijuana years prior, but that decision was put on hold due to legal and political opposition.
There are 21 conditions that qualify for medical marijuana in Mississippi. Some of those conditions include PTSD, autism, cancer, hepatitis, chronic pain and diabetes type 1 and 2.
