Good Day Farm launches Mississippi operations as medical marijuana becomes legal

After years of wrangling, medical marijuana is legal in Mississippi and Good Day Farm, the multi-state cannabis operator with a large Arkansas footprint, is set to play a significant role with a cultivation facility and six branded dispensaries in the state. 

Mississippi’s first medical marijuana sale was made Thursday and a press release from Little Rock-based Good Day Farm said the sale included its flower. Laurie Gregory, chief marketing officer for Good Day Farm, said other cultivators have also claimed the first sale. 

Good Day Farm has a cultivation facility in Oxford, Mississippi, and will have six branded Good Day Farm dispensaries in the state. The first store will open tomorrow in Hattiesburg and will be followed by stores in Biloxi, Brookhaven, Corinth, Laurel and Tupelo. 

The stores in Mississippi will have branding agreements and carry the Good Day Farm name, an arrangement that differs from the operating agreements the company has with three dispensaries in Arkansas. 

Good Day Farm owns Berner’s by Good Day Farm in Little Rock and operates three dispensaries with different ownership: Good Day Farm Texarkana, Good Day Farm Monticello and Good Day Farm Van Buren. 

The 130,000-square-foot cultivation facility in Oxford has been growing more than 50 cultivars, according to Gregory. The facility’s kitchen and lab, where the company will produce vapes and edibles, is expected to launch next month, she said. 

Mississippi voters passed a medical marijuana amendment in 2020 but the amendment was struck down by the state Supreme Court in 2021 because of problems with the petitioning process arising from an outdated state law regarding the number of congressional districts in the state. 

Last year, the Mississippi legislature passed a bill to legalize medical marijuana and it was signed into law by Gov. Tate Reeves in February. 

The Mississippi law does not limit the number of cultivation facilities, dispensaries or other cannabis businesses. The state has licensed 163 dispensaries, 73 cultivators and 12 processors and had 1,732 patients as of Monday, according to Mississippi Today.
