Mississippi Health Department Boosts Medical Marijuana Staffing On Heels Of Law Change

Anew Mississippi law requires medical marijuana card applications to be processed in 10 days instead of 30.

Patients who previously waited up to 60 days for their medical marijuana cards are expected to benefit from the change.

“Now that product is available, patients are eager and may want to be weaning themselves off of other medications,” Jeff Webb, the chair of the new medical marijuana advisory committee, said.

Contractors and other Health Department staff members are currently being hired and trained to process the influx of applications, which averages 150-200 new patient applications per day.

The Health Department is expected to divide the state into districts to handle cultivators and other cannabis-related businesses in designated regions.
