Drugs found at Mississippi city official’s home, police chief says

BYHALIA, Miss. — Narcotics were found Wednesday morning at a city official’s house in Byhalia, Mississippi, the Byhalia Police Chief said.

At around 3 a.m., officers say they responded to an alarm call on Katie Lane, “and discovered some illegal stuff.”

Once they approached the back of the house, they found the door was reportedly left open. When they went inside, they found a shed full of growing narcotics.

Byhalia Alderwoman Delainer Richmond was on the property Wednesday. She confirmed it is her house, and said she is not speaking to anyone at this time.

Two tubs, three big brown paper bags, and what seems to be an AR15 can be seen carried out of the home.

Although medical marijuana is legal in the state of Mississippi, it is illegal to grow their plants.

The police chief told WREG that this is not the first time they have responded to a call at this home.

Alderwoman Delainer Richmond is not being charged with anything at this time.

The case has been transferred to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
